A Study of Nonverbal Communication & Its Cultural Basis in Intercultural CommunicationAbstract
Nonverbal communication is a kind of communication that can convey messages without saying a word, for example, by people’s body language, paralanguage, silence and their dress; it can also be called “silent language”. It can express information in different forms and can help people to communicate better by its functions. Therefore, nonverbal communication cannot be ignored in human’s communication.
In intercultural communication, some nonverbal actions can be interpreted in various ways are various from one country to another for the cultural difference. In order to know and understand the difference, close attention should be paid to the specific cultural basis. To introduce the nonverbal communication more completely and discuss its cultural basis more clearly, nonverbal communication is analyzed in six categories with typical instances in each category. This thesis aims to help people to understand the different ways of thinking embodied in different cultures.

摘 要
非語(yǔ)言交際是1種無(wú)需言語(yǔ)而通過(guò)人們的體態(tài)語(yǔ)言，副語(yǔ)言，沉默和他們的服裝等來(lái)傳達(dá)信息的交際方式。。它也可被稱作“無(wú)聲的語(yǔ)言”。非語(yǔ)言交際有很多種形式來(lái)表達(dá)信息而且它有許多的功能來(lái)幫助人們更好地進(jìn)行交流。因此，非語(yǔ)言交際在人類的交際中不可忽視。
在跨文化交際中，由于文化的差異，1些非語(yǔ)言行為在不同的國(guó)家含義是5花8門的。為了認(rèn)識(shí)和理解它們之間的不同，我們必須關(guān)注它們所特有的文化基礎(chǔ)。為了更完整地介紹非語(yǔ)言交際和更清楚地介紹它們的文化基礎(chǔ)，本論文將非語(yǔ)言交際劃分為6種形式，在每1種形式中我們將介紹其中具有代表性的例子和它們的文化基礎(chǔ)。以此來(lái)展示出世界不同的文化背景下，人們的思維、認(rèn)知方式的千姿百態(tài)。
